CALIFORNIA - SAN FRANCISCO - January 25, 1989

I waited patiently in the bus terminal for my friend Mark to arrive. It was good to see him again after his move from the Midwest to this location. Almost immediately, Mark started giving me a tour of the city.

First, we crossed over the Golden Gate Bridge and drove up the hillside that overlooked it. From this vantage point, we could clearly see the bridge, the bay and most of San Francisco itself. It was an awesome panorama.

Recrossing the mighty Golden Gate, we next toured Golden Gate Park. It was lucious. The lush, tree-filled park had numerous opportunities for enjoyment. For nature-lovers, there was a serene lake in the middle of the park. About it were various structures, including a music concourse, arboretum, science academy, art museums, Japanese tea garden and Dutch windmill. For sports enthusiasts, an abundance of playing fields were provided.

Following this, we stopped at nearby Ocean Beach, a site that held the remains of a grand bygone bathhouse. Protruding from the water several yards out were sizable rocks, each taking a pounding from the incoming surf.
