CALIFORNIA - LOS ANGELES - January 23, 1990
Returning inside, the group was treated to a blue-screen reinactment of the space walk from "2010". Quite fascinating. Ouside once more, we can across the town square from the "Back To The Future" movies. At this time, the set was configured to look like the futuristic Mill Valley, with technologically-advanced Texaco station, the "Blast from The Past" bookstore and "Cafe 80's" malt shop. "Future 2" has just been released the previous summer, with "Future 3" coming right up. Soon, we had entered one of Universal's signature attractions, the King Kong exhibit. I must admit that they did a really good job on Kong's growling mechanical head. For a final hurrah, the group was ushered once again into a sound stage where a pseudo "Star Trek" segment was filmed. This gave us some insights as to how these sort of space shows were created. First, we started with the bridge of a Klingon cruiser which was under attack. Part two was devoted to a scene where a few Federation crewmen were stranded on a strange, alien planet, which just happened to have a resident monster. Completing the tour, I felt that I had had a pretty good time. The new stuff was certainly exciting and the old familiar settings brought back a number of nostalgic memories. |
