AMTRAK - COAST STARLIGHT - January 25, 1990
After a few days a sampling LA, it was time to move on. Paying my respects to Judy, I boarded the luxurious Coast Starlight and departed for San Francisco. Traveling North along the channel, I noticed a number of oil drilling platforms between us and the islands. I suppose the geologic instability of the area allows these rigs to get at the oil with relative ease. Along the beach were all of the predictable subjects, swimming surfers in wetsuits, craggy protruding rocks and hungry foraging seagulls. At the close of the day, as we approached San Francisco, the sky turned a golden yellow. Then we passed a burning fire, whose reddish-brown smoke added a sultry flavor to the scene. |
