CALIFORNIA - SAN FRANCISCO - January 26, 1990

Again, Mark and his lovely bride, Gretchen played host and tourguide during my brief stay in San Francisco. While Mark worked, I shuffled over to pier 39.

The sky was clear, and as before, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate were performing their tasks as scenic attractions flawlessly. But... there was something new and unexpected nearby. A rouge band of seals had taken over a few of the slips at the marina. They were honking loudly and ignoring all attempts to move them along. (Later, this would become a major feature of Pier 39, as the seals decided to make this cozy spot their permanent home.)

After a day of this, Mark and Gretchen transported myself and their friend Kim across the Bay to Tiburon for an exceptional meal at a restaurant called Guaymas. (Go there!)
