After leaving Tampa, Florida, I started heading west along the Gulf coast with the new digital camera in hand. As I approached Mobile, I began seeing signs for tours of the USS Alabama battleship. I had always wanted to look over one of these big ships and here was my opportunity. There were also a number of other vehicles to check out, a submarine, various airplanes and several tanks. The collection was quite impressive. Unfortunately it was very hot and humid that day, so I only did it for about 90 minutes, which was all I could stand, and then got back on the road to Gulfport.
