FLORIDA - TAMPA - August 04, 2003

I have never been to any of Florida's gulf-side cities. This made Tampa a bit of a curiousity. The whole Tampa / St. Petersburg area is large and spread out, so I knew there was little chance of exploring it to any great extent. I was just going to have to settle for whatever glimpse I could get. Fortunately, I was granted a wonderful tour guide, named Sandy, who was pleased as punch to get out of the office and take me around as I photographed client projects.

We went downtown and across the bay and here and there and everywhere. Actually I have no idea where we really went. I just know that we kept winding back up near Tampa's football stadium, which seemed to be surrounded by countless adult bookstores and strip joints. Sandy said there were more of these per capita in Tampa than any other place in the US. I think she was right.

As with most Florida cities, Tampa had its fair share of exotic structures. One home seemed to be modeled on a Spanish fort or castle. Another building had a definate Russian or Arabian influence.
