ILLINOIS - CHICAGO - July 19, 2003

After doing a shoot in Madison, WI, I spent part of the weekend visiting with my friend Neil and his family in Chicago. I just so happened that I arrived in time for the neighborhood's annual block party. Neil, being an amateur magician, put on a magic show for the crowd. Neil never fails to amaze his audience, which consists of both adults and children. Even the typically skeptical teenagers were duly impressed and confounded.

One of Neil's favorite tricks is the "guess whose brain this is" act, which features a brain in a jar. In a nutshell, after receiving psychic impressions, someone has to reach into a box of nametags and pull out the one that correctly identifies the brain's true identity. Once a name has been selected and stuck on the outside of the jar, Neil opens the lid to reveal an identical tag with the correct name on it. The two always match up and the moment is followed by the obligatory "how'd he do that?".
