Greetings, road lore afficionados!

Please allow me to present you with the inspiration for my many travels -- my free-wheeling relatives.

My parents, and particularly my uncle, made lots of trips during the 1940's and 50's. They were responsible for planting the travel bug in my ear. (or perhaps just passing along the nomad gene.)

Around the time of the war, my smiling uncle Tom was a farmer in Kansas. For a number of years he would plant his crops and then hit the road on his sturdy Indian motorcycle with several of his buddies in tow. According to him, they never knew where they would be going when they started out. They simply picked a direction and hoped for the best. Several weeks later they would come back home and finish their chores.

It is from his stories that I have learned the value of being a free spirit. Both he and my parents have enriched my life because they encouraged me to go out and see America.
