The following is an e-mail provided by Bill Boston on May 22, 2007, regarding music he has identified within the Connections programs:

- - -

I wanted to provided you with the names of compositions I was able to identify from the "Connections" segment "The Wheel Of Fortune."

"Midnight" from Cinderella (ballet by Prokofiev) -- used in clock montage following verge and foliot introduction (ending with Mr. Burke's line '...the sound of tick tock, tick tock...

Prelude - Tranquillo from Sinfonia Antartica (Ralph Vaughn Williams) -- starts to play in end credits after Mr. Burke's close about mass production and the potential threat to individuality...'and if I'm not here...where am I?' (segues from Mr. Burke to an assembly line of gingerbread men). This piece is effectively used in other "Connections" episodes to denote dread or impending doom.

I was able to identify these from watching two segments on youtube. Will be able to help you with more after I purchase the series on DVD. I often wondered if the opening choral piece (which goes into the arc light "Connections" title) was in fact Ligeti's "Lux Aeterna." This would be my best guess.

All Best to you and Mr. Burke,
Bill Boston
