CALIFORNIA - VENICE (LA) - April 21, 2004

The next day, I toured Los Angeles a bit more, starting with the Venice / Santa Monica area. I tried to look up my friends Kevin and Marie, who had once lived in Chicago, but my memory failed me not having an exact address. Later, it turned out that I was only a block away, but they had not been home. During my hunt, I did stumble back across the Venice canals, which were part on my mental trail leading to Kevin and Marie's house. Not having much to do as I hopefully waited for a return phone call, I amused myself by observing these very un-Italian waterways.

Venice is also home to some very unusual architecture, a macro-sculpture by artist Claes Oldenburg and a building by Frank Gehry. These items can be found integrated together into the headquarters of mega-advertising agency Chiat / Day Mojo, consisting in part of a giant set of binoculars and building whose upper portion seems to be having a directional identity crisis.
