ILLINOIS - CHICAGO - June 26, 2004

Expanding what I originally thought was going to be a short walk to another bus, I set my site on the John Hancock building, passing the imposing Sofitel hotel to get a closer look. Driven to explore the Border's bookstore on Michigan Avenue, I entered its doors and surveyed its complement of publications.

Crossing at the historic watertower, I turned eastward and started bearing down on the lake. My yet-to-grow-weary feet were now advancing me to Streeterville where more of Chicago's ever-growing population of stylish offices and condominiums were to be found. In view were Ontarie Center and modern classic Lake Point Tower. Beyond those stood a gallery of newer post-modern cousins. Courting the river and spanning a bridge, the architectural decades continued to alternate, revealing the giant white Amoco column, pointed Prudential tower and triangular Swiss Grand hotel.
