| OKLAHOMA - OKLAHOMA CITY - April 04, 2005
There were two buildings in the downtown area that drew most of my attention. These were the Oklahoma City Botanical Gardens and the Stage Center theater complex. The city's arboretum consisted of a gigantic glass tube nestled over a tranquil pool in the heart of a tastefully landscaped park. It was a most inviting and relaxing environment to stroll around in. Being Spring, the freshly formed foliage bore a lush shade of yellowy green. Also on cue, the buds on the flowering trees had exploded into bloom. Their contrasting splashes of purple and pink gave an amplified intensity to the artistically colored scene. On the opposing block, a more artificial composition of shape and color existed. I was captured by this structure's offbeat arrangement. At first, I wasn't sure of what I was looking at. The facility seemed to resemble a child's building block assembly. Odd cubic and cylindrical shapes were randomly positioned on pylons and connected by diagonal tubes and struts. I thought it might be a material handling complex of some sort. Only after reading a sign did I come to realize what this was. It was a theater, a performance space infused with creative expression. Someday, I would love to see what goes on inside. |
