| VIRGINIA - RICHMOND - April 17, 2005
Hollywood Cemetery is quite a remarkable place. It's undulating grounds are filled with both historic celebrities and unusual monuments. To begin with, this uniquely Southern site is home to three past Presidents. Buried here are James Monroe, John Tyler and Jefferson Davis. Monroe is entombed beneath a stylish black metal frame. Tyler is settled next to an eloquent stone kiosk that features his bust. A full-sized statue of Jefferson Davis overlooks his namesake's resting place. Along with these fine gentlemen, many other significant and influential personalities reside within the bounds of this location. Without question, Hollywood Cemetery also contains many noteworthy monuments and markers. The most ambitious of these is the Confederate War memorial, a huge stone pyramid that is dedicated to the 18,000 Confederate soldiers that are interred nearby. On a much smaller and more personal scale is the cast iron canine that guards his master's grave. |
