FLORIDA - TAMPA / YBOR CITY - January 14, 2006

Departing Orlando and the Builders Show, I headed towards Tampa and the coast. My friends CJ and Riccardo have rented a house there and I was anxious to see their new residence. As I waited for Riccardo to finish his work, I took a drive through downtown Tampa. The only other time I had been here was to photograph some properties. During that assignment I was shuttled around by a company representative and didn't get much of a feel for where I was. This time, I was hoping to spot a few familiar landmarks. Unfortunately, I didn't locate many.

Adjacent to the business district is a small area of shops and restaurants called Ybor City. It's the type of place that college students and young professionals like to hang out in. I did a methodical sweep of this zone and discovered much more to it than I came away with on my initial visit. Small condos and apartments had popped up everywhere and the streets were lined with numerous cafes and boutiques. This, evidently was the place to go for an evening's entertainment. Later that night, Riccardo and I returned to Ybor City for a fine sushi dinner and a movie.
