KANSAS - OVERLAND PARK - March 01, 2006

On Wednesday evening, around six o'clock, my cell phone rang. It was Ken, my roommate, who was downstairs watching TV. "Come on down and see this", he said. "Overland Park is on fire!" Hurrying down the steps, I arrived to see an aerial view of downtown Overland Park, with a huge gray cloud coming out of it.

I suggested that it might be a good idea to head down that way and take some pictures. In the back of my mind, I knew all of the action would probably be over once I got there. Ignoring that, I hopped in the car and took a meandering route towards the affected area.

To my surprise, there was still smoke coming from around the neighorhood's clock tower. So, I parked a few blocks away and walked over to the fire. As I got closer, I could see that a crowd had gathered. Aside from these curious onlookers, the media was also present, both on the ground and in the air. Evidently, the fire was taking longer to get under control than I expected.
