MISSOURI - LOUISIANA - February 21, 2006

The last interesting spot on the way back home was the Mississippi River. Crossing it on Highway 54, one is dumped out into the town of Louisiana, MO. This is a place I tend to stopp at if I have the time, mostly because it has several nice views of the river and its bridges.

Today was a scene that I had not experienced before. The Mississippi was frozen. No boat traffic would be passing up or down the waterway. Everything had a frosty appearance. The surface being a solid sheet of ice, one was inclined to discover flocks of birds sitting on top. Either this was a popular spot or they had been there a while, as was evidenced by all the white droppings.

As for the river and its bridges, they were all frozen in time, waiting for Spring to bring life back to the scene. I departed and made the last few hours of highway travel back to my starting point.
