FLORIDA - SARASOTA - January 27, 2008

Finally, came Sarasota and the famous Ringling Museum complex.

Unfortunately we arrived near closing time, but that did not prevent us from wandering the grounds.

At first we inspected some spectacular banyon trees, with lengthy roots descending from outstretched branches. One of Nature's marvels, to be sure. These were the hallmark of the Ringling campus.

Shortly thereafter, we hopped a tram and made our way to the ornate Ringling mansion. As described, Ca d'Zan was covered with intricate details and carried influences from multiple origins. Being home to a circus empire, it reflected a carnival-like atmosphere in its elaborate design.

Racing the sun to the beach on the way home, we passed through downtown Sarasota. A few noteable modern buildings caught our eye along the way, including the richly purple Van Wezil Performing Art Center.
