NEVADA - LAS VEGAS - August 05, 2002

Now we turn our attention from distant lands to a sight that is totally American, the New York City skyline. What I am referring to now is New York, New York, an eye-popping replica of Manhattan that is every bit as outrageous as the hotels I have just discussed.

New York, New York is loaded with famous 20th century American icons: the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building and its sisters. Plus, there's a rollercoaster that surrounds the whole site, just in case you've always wanted to see New York from that perspective. This hotel definitely competes for the top crowd-drawing position on the strip.

Aside from the skyscrapers, you will find lots of other New York City touches, like a facade of low-rise buildings from one of New York's older neighborhoods, and a fireboat spraying water at the base of Lady Liberty. During my visit, there was a memorial set up along the walkway in front of the Staue of Liberty. It was a collection of t-shirts sent in by various fire departments to commemorate New York's 9-11 tragedy.
