WYOMING - July 27, 2002
One of my favorite rest stops on the West Coast Loop drive, is an information center that claims to be the highest point on Interstate 80. The facility overlooks the highway and features an elevated bust of Abraham Lincoln. This is pretty hard to miss as you are driving along. After taking a rest, I headed west across Wyoming, passing through Laramie, another of my favorite towns, mostly due to the University of Wyoming being there. Laramie is small, yet quite hospitable. I get a good feeling from this place. As I continued along the I-80 route, I could see a number of short angled fences dotting the landscape. I have never asked anyone what these are for. I can only guess that they are to keep tumbleweeds from blowing across the prairie or are to prevent snow from piling up in undesired places. Perhaps both.
